| Ultrasound is used to to trace the course of the incompetent GSV and varicose veins, then the extremity is prepped and draped for sterility. |
| The GSV is accessed either percutaneously with a special needle or surgically. Here, the GSV is accessed surgically by making a small stab wound and using the phlebectomy hook to pull out a small loop of the vein. |
| The hook grasps the vein.... |
| the hook slides under the vien for total access... |
| A small slit will be made on the vein wall... |
| A special sheath is introduced into the vein. this sheath facilitates the introduction of the Closure catheter into the vein. |
| The closure catheter is introduced into the sheath... |
| the tip of the catheter is slowly advanced to the juncture of the GSV with the deep vein under ultrasound guidance. |
| At this point, tumeacent anesthesia has been injected all along the vein and ablation has begun by turning on the RF generator. The catheter is slowly withdrawn as the heated tip of he catheter shrinks the vein. |
